Calling All ColdFusion Developers using Backbase

Hey all,

How many of us are using Backbase with ColdFusion? I think there is a slight problem that we do not have a "Backbase and ColdFusion" forum (just from the current forums it seems that there is a need) - can all CF developers make themselves heard!!!! we need a forum on this ;-) Backbase rocks, but we need to be heard and get some forum going..I wanna get to the bottom of the integration - maybe even get a framework idea going.

Speak to you all soon

Calling All ColdFusion Developers using Backbase

I just started looking into Backbase, but I sure like to see some examples from other CFers :-)

It would definitly help to get started up. Also keep in mind that Flex 2 is coming out soon (6 months) and it's easy to use for CF developers, much easier to intergrate then before! The lack on "Coldfusion support/demos" would be a big loss for this great product!

Indeed, which is why I am calling for this....I think Backbase can be a great competitor for Flex but it needs a Backbase and ColdFusion list and certainly some examples!

Coldfusion Integration

While Coldfusion has integrated some real nice Ajax functionality into the language, I have experienced breakage when this is combined with other libraries such as the Yahoo YUI. I also encountered some problems when using the Google libraries, in particular the map API. Backbase has a vastly richer repertoire of widgets and functions and is very attractive to us for a variety of applications that are not reaedy for FLEX.

I found that integrating CF with Backbase is fairly straightforward given the many nice XML functions in the platform. The well documented PHP examples are very easy to translate into CF and I was in the process of implementing the data grid, among others.

It would be very nice if Backbase would provide the same level of documentation that is available for PHP as I am certain that many CF developers would use backbase.

_bump.

Surely Backbase have an opinion on this? Backbase is a direct competitor to Flex now and with Flex 2 going to be simple for CF Developers - surely Backbase has to do the same? Microsoft will have Atlas and any and all .NET developers will likely stick with it..... Jeez, I will help out if really wanted! ;-)

Calling All ColdFusion Developers using Backbase

Hi Neil,

of course we have an opinion on this ;-)

Clearly there is a good match between ColdFusion and Backbase, both being tag based, one client- and one server-side. And we are getting the message loud and clear that there is interest.

A dedicated discussion forum and some examples are certainly not asking too much. I will contact you by e-mail to check if we could work together.

BTW: I think we have a very competitive offering compared to both Microsoft Atlas and Macromedia Flex, both of which are probably a year away from release.

Cool ;-)

backbase

As long as the software proves to be efficient and bugs free, more and more people will start using it. Right?

What about pricing? I think Microsoft Atlas will be included with Visual Studio and Flex 2 will free. The Eclipse Plugin or the Eclipse based Flex Builder will cost less than 1000 USD.
I would expect Flex earlier than you, just the half of what you think.

Backbase looks really cool, but it's not in the price range for most of our clients. I would be happy to see something like the Flex Builder 2 pricing.

Dear Backbase-ColdFusion Community,

I follow Neil Robertson's call for a server side API to Backbase (at least a wraper) for ColdFusion (7). Therefore, I've create a community website that's available at http://www.cfbackbase.com. The site is not completely populated with the info to get started, but will by next Monday.

The project runs under GNU General Public License.

By now, two mates are registered as developers. We cordially welcome any smart brain that can contribute to the project and is familiar with OOP resp. CF-components.

Best regards
Brayan

Brayan, shoot me an email (johncblandii ---at--- gmail.com) to discuss cfbackbase.com and my possible involvement. I'm a pure noob at Backbase, just checking it out for knowledge sake, but advanced in CF.

Thanks,

John C. Bland II

Hi John,

Great you think about joining the project. The current team setup by 15 March 2006 is:
Project Audit: Brayan Zimmerli
Developer: Reto Aeberli (ColdFusion Guru), Brayan Zimmerli
Developer: Beat Schmid

I audit, develop and create the concepts, Reto and Beat develop the ColdFusion components. We look forward to put you in a developer position as well. The main task is to create CF components for each widget in Backbase - of course - with spectacular funcionality/behaviour and without loosing the backbase flexibility. If you can ready UML2 it wont be hard for you to get started. Next Monday I'll publish the object hirachy. According to that blue print you can get started and develop the objects that appeal to you the most. We currently develop using Dreamweaver 8 (including Backbase plugin). This is because we need the checkout/checkin functionaity.

for contact use either brayan[at]brayan.com or info[at]cfbackbase.com

Best regards,

www.cfbackbase.com is starting to look good! i can't wait to see more, I just found backspace today. Haven't got a clue how to do anything with ajax but of course we all see where it can bring our applications. This looks sweet... For the most part I really don't want to spend half my day writing javascript.

I'm going to play around with backspace for a while and look forward to see what you got going on over at

If you have some demo apps and are going to cfunited maybe we could meet up in the internet cafe for some java!

Drop me a line if your going to cfunited.

What is going on?

I am curious to know what is going on with this site, seems not to be updated for close to 1 year 7 months. I think that this would be amazing if we could get this started up again.

The problems is that I have to look everywhere, and there are documents for both, but not combining both. I just would like to get my project done but still so many problems.

Just would like an update on this??

What is going on?

Hi ShawnRisk,

The site cfbackbase.com was not a project started by Backbase. The "founders" were people from our community. Because we have migrated from the old Backbase 3 forum to the new one on BDN I doubt that they are still monitoring activities on this thread. My best guess would be to try and send them a mail on the e-mails in the thread.

As far as I know, we(Backbase) are not focusing on developing anything for ColdFusion at the moment. I will start up the discussion here(at the office) for you again.

Regards,
Emiel

Email and BDN

I was looking at the cfbackbase.com site and there is no email address to contact anyone. I don't know how to get in communication with the people who made the website.

Another thing is that if you are able to come up with a way that we can pull together backend languages with Backbase that would be very interesting. I really want something that is easier for us to put things together, as many people I know have trouble looking at the code as it is messy messy.

As for BDN and 4.1 this has been really amazing, and I think you can still pull everyone into 4.1 as that would be the best way to get more and more support for this. We could also fix more bugs along the way, if everyone was using 4.1.

I no nothing about Cold

I no nothing about Cold Fusion or cfbackbase.com but I was around two years ago when those messages were posted. I remember one person in this thread was VERY vocal about CF and pleaded to have a separate forum just for CF postings. Backbase provided that but in the end there were only about 3 postings within a 6 month period. I have not seen any of the participants in this thread on the forums for about 18 months. I think they've moved on to other things which is probably why cfbackbase.com has not been updated.
