Licence is free?

Licensing Explanation

Hi Marcel,

Backbase 4.x Community Edition is free to use for development and deployment on one server up to 2 CPUs. This is per company. This means that if your application runs on a 2 CPU server and it's all it needs, then you're good to go and it's free.

Now if your application requires more CPUs, then you need to buy a commercial license from BB. If you or your company need support, professional services, quarterly maintenance releases, hot fixes, and more, then, you also need to buy a commercial license from BB.

Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Michel

Is the license valid for other BB versions ?

Hi,

I wonder if this same free license applies to other backbase versions like 3.1.7 ?

Thank you!

license is free?

Hi,

The current license model is not applicable on previous versions. However you're free to use the 3.x version for free for non commercial use.

Redistribution

Does this mean that after the software is over and it is using BB 4.x, we can decide whether to make a distribution or just close the application(without redistribution)?

Redistribution

If you are going to redistribute the technology with your software, you are then an ISV (Independant Software Vendor). In which case, you need to get an OEM license. I would recommend you contact one of our offices directly for a price quote. Americas: +1 866 800 8996, Europe and Asia: +31 20 465 8888 or through email at sales-us@backbase.com (Americas) or sales-eu@backbase.com (Europe/Asia)

Hope this helps,
Michel

How does this apply to consulting companies?

Hello,

I do consulting work that sometimes involves creating web sites/applications for customers. I normally develop the site on my server(s), then deploy the application to the customer. In my development environment, I leverage VMs that the customer connects to in order to review the applications prior to deployment in their environment.

Can you please clarify how your licensing model applies to that situation? Would I simply need to "register" a community edition under the customers name when I deploy it?

Thanks in advance,
Rick

For Consulting Companies

You're free to use the Community Edition to do development for your customers. Then, when you are deploying your application, your customer will need to pay a license fee based on the number of CPUs used for the application, or we sometimes charge per application (with unlimited CPUs). Our pricing is flexible, customers have a choice of yearly subscription or perpetual licenses. BTW, if your customer use only 1 server with 2 CPUs, there is no need to pay us anything.

Hope this helps. If you have further questions feel free to contact us directly. For the Americas call : +1 866 800 8996 for Europe and Asia: +31 20 465 8888.

In any case I would recommend you call one of our offices, so we can establish the best way to help you be successful with our technology. One of our representatives will also help you figure out the price associated with the deployment of your app before you start the project.
